Pakistan outshines India in optimism, economy, and peace

Published on: January 2, 2026 10:11 PM

Pakistan has emerged ahead of India in optimism, economic outlook, and peace expectations at the start of 2026, according to the latest Global Economic Gallup Survey conducted across 60 countries.

The survey found that 51 percent of Pakistanis feel positive about the coming year, creating a net optimism score of 31 percent, while 53 percent expect 2026 to bring economic prosperity.

In comparison, only 39 percent of Indians expressed optimism for 2026, and the global average stood at 24 percent, highlighting Pakistan’s stronger confidence amid regional and global uncertainties.

Peace expectations are also higher in Pakistan, with 52 percent of respondents hoping for increased global peace, more than double India’s 26 percent, reflecting one of the highest optimism levels recorded since 1994.

Historical trends show Pakistan has previously outperformed the global average in the late 1990s and mid-2010s on key indicators including optimism, economic expectations, and hope for peace, reinforcing a pattern of resilience.

Despite global challenges, the survey indicates Pakistanis remain hopeful and confident, signaling a positive national outlook for 2026 compared to both regional peers and the worldwide average.
