LAHORE: Police investigating a recent student suicide attempt at the University of Lahore have found no evidence suggesting administrative pressure or attendance-related issues. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran told that the inquiry so far indicates the student may have been facing personal or domestic stress.

The incident, which left the female student, Fatima, with severe leg injuries, has raised serious concerns after two suicide attempts were reported at the university within the past 15 days. Police have questioned the student’s classmates as well as university officials as part of the ongoing investigation. So far, nothing points to pressure from the university administration.
DIG Faisal Kamran said investigators are reviewing mobile phone records and call detail records (CDRs) to gather further information. Authorities have also obtained five different CCTV footages from the university, which show the student jumping. These recordings are being analyzed to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In response, the University of Lahore has formed an eight-member inquiry committee to conduct its own investigation. Retired Dean of the Faculty of Law, Muhammad Bilal Khan, will head the panel. Other members include faculty and student representatives, including two classmates of the student involved. The committee has been tasked with preparing a detailed report once the inquiry is completed.
Authorities emphasized the importance of preventive measures, urging universities to monitor students for signs of mental stress and provide timely support. DIG Kamran also recommended that staff be present near CCTV-monitored areas to help prevent such incidents in the future.
