Pakistan, Bangladesh air chiefs discuss JF-17 procurement

Bangladesh Air Force Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan visited Islamabad and met Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported on Tuesday. The air chiefs meeting focused on strengthening defence cooperation and exploring the potential procurement of JF-17 Thunder fighter jets.

The visiting Bangladeshi air chief was received with a guard of honour at PAF headquarters. ISPR said the discussions also covered operational cooperation, training, capacity building, and collaboration in aerospace advancements.

ACM Sidhu briefed his counterpart on recent PAF advancements and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh through a comprehensive training framework, ranging from basic flying to advanced and specialized courses. He also assured fast-tracked delivery of Super Mushshak trainer aircraft along with long-term training and maintenance support.

The Bangladeshi delegation expressed interest in learning from PAF’s operational expertise and sought assistance with maintenance for its ageing fleet. They also discussed integrating air defence radar systems to enhance Bangladesh’s air surveillance capabilities.

During the visit, the delegation toured key PAF facilities, including the National ISR & Integrated Air Operations Centre, PAF Cyber Command, and the National Aerospace Science & Technology Park. The ISPR highlighted that the visit underscored strong historical ties and a shared resolve to deepen defence cooperation.

The discussions signal a growing strategic partnership between Pakistan and Bangladesh in aviation, defence technology, and operational collaboration, strengthening long-term regional security ties.
