Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a severe cold wave alert for northern regions and northern Balochistan. The advisory warns of intensified cold conditions, dense fog, and associated health and travel risks. Citizens are urged to take precautions as temperatures are expected to drop sharply.
Severe cold is forecast to continue in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Pothohar region. Northern parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat, and Kalat, are also expected to experience extreme temperatures in the coming days. Authorities have advised residents to prepare for freezing conditions.

The NDMA highlighted potential health risks, especially for children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing conditions. Respiratory illnesses may rise, and the ongoing cold could damage standing crops, potentially affecting agricultural output in affected regions.
Dense fog is expected in plain areas, particularly during early mornings. The NDMA cautioned motorists to drive carefully, as reduced visibility could increase the risk of road accidents. Emergency services have been asked to remain alert to manage any cold-related incidents.
