Hollow Knight: Silksong offers fun and challenge for all players

Published on: January 9, 2026 12:14 PM

Hollow Knight: Silksong, the long-awaited sequel to Team Cherry’s 2017 hit, delivers an engaging Metroidvania experience that balances challenge with enjoyment. Following Hornet, the former princess-protector of Hallownest, players explore a bug-filled kingdom full of mysterious foes and intriguing characters. The game is accessible even to newcomers, as it sets itself in a new world separate from the original Hollow Knight.

The game stands out for its lush art and immersive sound design. Every region is visually stunning, from glittering shards to intricate landscapes, while layered audio cues enhance combat intensity. Boss fights feel high-stakes, with heart-pounding music and impactful sound effects that make each victory satisfying and each defeat meaningful. Hornet’s movements are fluid and responsive, making exploration and combat feel both satisfying and precise.

Silksong’s combat system rewards skill and timing. Each strike lands cleanly, with every hit counting toward victory or failure. Bosses present unique challenges, initially appearing insurmountable but becoming thrilling once players master their patterns. The game’s difficulty scales well, allowing players to explore at their own pace without feeling overly punished. Optional areas provide a break from tough battles, giving a sense of freedom and exploration.

The world is sprawling and full of secrets, encouraging players to uncover hidden treasures and interact with quirky characters. While some fans may find the limited Crest system less versatile than the original’s Charms, the game still provides satisfying gameplay variety. Minor drawbacks aside, Silksong succeeds as a polished, immersive sequel that appeals to both hardcore and casual Metroidvania fans.
