No winter break extension, minister clarifies

Published on: January 9, 2026 8:02 PM

Rana Sikandar Hayat on Friday firmly dismissed rumors of extended winter holidays, stating that all schools and colleges across Punjab will reopen on January 12, 2026, exactly as scheduled.

In a clear message shared publicly, the minister emphasized that academic calendars remain unchanged, adding that reopening dates were finalized earlier and no proposal or review regarding holiday extensions was ever considered.

He also rejected a widely circulated notification on social media, calling it completely fake, and clarified that the Punjab Education Department issued no directive supporting such misleading claims.

Moreover, the minister assured parents, teachers, and students that educational institutions would follow the announced timetable, stressing that stability and consistency remain essential for maintaining academic discipline provincewide.
