Economy, parliament must move together, says Gillani

Published on: January 10, 2026 1:51 AM

Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, while sharing his views, said that he began writing his book “Chahay Yousuf Say Sada” during his time in jail. He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the book launching ceremony of “Maeeshat Aur Parliament”, a compilation of economic columns by MNA Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig.

The Chairman Senate emphasized that authenticity is essential while writing a book or autobiography, noting that every writer must remain mindful of this responsibility. He said that while writing a travelogue may be relatively easy, documenting one’s life through the lens of history requires great courage and consistency.

Gilani highlighted that the economy and parliament must move together, as neither can be sidelined. He said that national issues are addressed through collective thinking, dialogue, and shared experiences. Stressing the need for more literature on parliamentary affairs, he said such writings would help the younger generation better understand the country’s political landscape through experienced perspectives. He congratulated Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig on the launch of his book, calling it a valuable and must-read contribution.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig said that “Maeeshat Aur Parliament” marked his 11th book. He shared that over the past 23 years, he has written more than a thousand columns on governance, the business community, and the economy. He also mentioned his autobiography titled “Limitless”, reflecting the belief that there should be no limits to being a Pakistani.

The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Consul General of China, Consul General of Iraq, Consul General of Pakistan in Morocco, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, Sindh Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, PPP leaders Naveed Qamar and Nafeesa Shah, veteran writer Anwar Maqsood, and journalist Huma Baqai, among others.
