BANNU: A jirga held in Domel on Sunday under the Hatikhel peace committee reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order in the area, rejecting militants’ attempts to dismantle the body. The meeting brought together prominent elders, including Malik Tawani, Malik Ibrahim, Malik Aqal Jan, Malik Noor Daraz, Syed Alam, and Usman.

The elders unanimously declared that the Hatikhel peace committee would continue its work uninterrupted, insisting that no compromise would be made on peace and stability. The jirga also addressed recent misunderstandings involving the Ahmadzai tribe. Two Ahmadzai members had been detained by militants a few days prior and were later released.
Following their release, militants circulated an audio message claiming the detainees were freed on the condition that the Ahmadzai tribe disband the peace committee and allow militants to operate freely in the area. The jirga firmly rejected this demand, with elders asserting that no such agreement had been accepted.
“The peace committee will continue its activities without interruption,” the jirga stated, emphasizing unity and resilience against extremist threats. The meeting also highlighted the community’s determination to safeguard local stability and prevent militants from exploiting tribal lands.
Regional police officer Sajjad Khan assured that full security support would be provided to both the jirga and the Hatikhel peace committee. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies would remain vigilant to protect the elders and ensure the continued functioning of the committee.
