Internet slowdown to hit Pakistan on Jan 15

Published on: January 14, 2026 10:30 PM

Lahore: Internet users across Pakistan may experience slow speeds and service disruptions on January 15, 2026. NayaTel announced that repair work on an international submarine cable will start around 2 pm. The maintenance is expected to last about eight hours and may affect internet performance nationwide.

NayaTel informed users via email that the repair is essential, although details about the exact fault or location were not provided. During this time, browsing, streaming, online work, and other digital services could slow down. Users are advised to plan important online activities in advance.

Submarine cables are critical for Pakistan’s international internet traffic. Any malfunction in these cables can significantly impact connectivity. While data will be rerouted through alternative paths, internet speeds may still drop during the repair period.

The repair comes after a major internet disruption earlier this month. On January 1, 2026, users across Pakistan reported slow speeds and outages that lasted more than two days due to an upstream provider failure.

Telecom companies, including NayaTel, have urged users to remain patient and plan ahead. They stressed that such maintenance is unavoidable and necessary to ensure long-term stability and reliable internet service in Pakistan.
