Putin urges new global security order through cooperation

Published on: January 16, 2026 5:01 PM

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the global political environment is steadily worsening and urged countries to strengthen cooperation to prevent further instability. He shared these views while addressing a ceremony where newly appointed ambassadors presented their credentials in Moscow.

During his remarks, Putin stressed that the existing global security system no longer reflects current realities and must be rebuilt on new and fair foundations. He added that Russia’s proposals deserve serious and renewed discussion at international forums.

He criticised the growing trend of unilateral and power-based actions, arguing that diplomacy, dialogue, and compromise are increasingly ignored in global decision-making. According to him, this approach weakens trust and deepens divisions between states.

Putin also said some nations attempt to dictate how others should live and choose their political direction. Therefore, he emphasised stronger respect for international law to support a more balanced and multipolar world order.

Reaffirming Russia’s foreign policy goals, he stated that Moscow remains open to mutually beneficial relations with all countries. He also highlighted the United Nations, saying the UN Charter is more vital today for maintaining global stability.

On Ukraine, Putin said the conflict resulted from ignored Russian security concerns and NATO’s expansion near its borders. Although Russia wants lasting peace, he claimed willingness for compromise is still absent among Kyiv and its allies.
