Kohat strike: Massive oil and gas reserves found

Published on: January 20, 2026 6:15 PM

The Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced a major oil and gas discovery in Kohat. The new Baragzai X-1 well will produce 3,100 barrels of crude oil and 81,500 million cubic feet of gas daily. Officials say this marks OGDCL’s third significant discovery in the Naspha block within a month.

The spokesperson highlighted that the three discoveries together now yield 9,480 barrels of crude oil per day. This accounts for 14.5 percent of the country’s total crude oil output. Authorities believe this is a key milestone for Pakistan’s national energy security.

Local experts say that boosting domestic oil and gas production will help stabilize energy supply and reduce reliance on imports. OGDCL emphasized that these findings demonstrate the untapped potential of the Kohat region for long-term energy development.

Officials also noted that continuous exploration and modern extraction technology contributed to the successful results. They plan to further develop the field to meet growing domestic energy demand.
