Pakistan Cricket Board announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, naming Salman Ali Agha as captain during a press conference held in Lahore.
The selection was revealed jointly by selection committee head Aqib Javed, head coach Mike Hesson, and the newly appointed skipper, outlining Pakistan’s strategy for the global tournament.
The squad features experienced and emerging players including Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, and Saim Ayub.
Other selected players include Sahibzada Farhan, Faheem Ashraf, Abrar Ahmed, Salman Mirza, Khwaja Nafees, Usman Tariq, Usman Khan, and Haris Rauf.

Aqib Javed explained that player selection focused heavily on conditions and pitches expected in Sri Lanka, where balanced bowling and disciplined batting will be crucial.
He added that Babar Azam’s experience remains vital, while Haris Rauf’s consistent form and long service made him a reliable choice for the tournament.
Head coach Mike Hesson praised Usman Khan’s recent performances and clarified that he will bat at number six while handling wicketkeeping responsibilities.
He also said Sahibzada Farhan offers additional wicketkeeping cover, but the team management will avoid placing unnecessary pressure on key players.

Captain Salman Ali Agha stressed that Pakistan must play smart and disciplined cricket, especially after disappointing performances in recent tournaments.
He noted that the team is motivated and aware that Sri Lankan conditions rarely produce high-scoring games, demanding patience and tactical awareness.
Pakistan will begin its World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on February 7, with the tournament running until March 8 in India and Sri Lanka.
Before the event, Pakistan will host Australia for a three-match T20 series in Lahore, serving as crucial preparation for the global competition.
