Saudi vows no airspace for Iran strikes

Published on: January 28, 2026 10:01 PM

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has affirmed to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that Riyadh will not allow its airspace or territory to be used for military actions against Tehran.

In a phone call, the crown prince emphasized support for dialogue-based efforts aimed at resolving differences, strengthening regional security, and maintaining stability, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s preference for diplomacy over conflict.

Iran welcomed the message, with President Pezeshkian noting Tehran’s willingness to follow international law to prevent war, as tensions rise amid warnings of potential US military action in the region.

The statement follows a similar position by the United Arab Emirates, which also declared it would not permit any military operations against Iran through its airspace or territorial waters.

Tensions escalated after US President Donald Trump announced the deployment of another naval “armada” toward Iran, warning against nuclear activity or violence toward protesters, while expressing hope that a diplomatic deal could be reached.

The US presence includes an aircraft carrier and supporting warships, enhancing capabilities for defense or potential strikes, even as Iran deals with recent protests and a crackdown that authorities blame on terrorists and exiled opponents.
