Apple reportedly planning to turn Siri into AI chatbot in iOS 27

Published on: January 29, 2026 4:40 PM

Apple Reportedly Plans to Revamp Siri, Turning it Into Company's First AI Chatbot - Tekedia

Apple is reportedly preparing a major overhaul for Siri, its virtual assistant, transforming it into a fully AI-powered chatbot with the launch of iOS 27 later this year. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the update is expected alongside the iPhone 18 in September 2026, following the company’s usual release pattern.

The new Siri is said to feature a ChatGPT-style interface, allowing users to ask it to search the internet, generate AI images, analyze documents, and interact with personal data such as calendar entries and messages to perform complex tasks. Gurman also noted that the AI assistant will be integrated across iPhones, iPads, and Macs, and its capabilities will extend to apps like Music, Podcasts, and Mail. It remains unclear whether users will be able to disable these AI features.

Apple’s move comes after years of lagging behind competitors like Google and Samsung, which have already introduced AI-driven assistants on their devices. Reports indicate that the AI Siri will leverage Google’s Gemini technology, giving Apple a robust foundation to compete in the growing AI assistant space.

The company is expected to formally unveil the new AI-powered Siri at WWDC in June 2026, providing developers and users with a preview of its enhanced capabilities. Despite entering the market later than rivals, Apple benefits from its massive global user base, which could accelerate adoption and set a new standard for AI integration on mobile devices.

Analysts say that the AI upgrade could significantly enhance Siri’s functionality, helping Apple catch up in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence landscape while offering a more personalized and interactive experience for users.
