Russia seeks de-escalation amid Iran crisis

Published on: February 2, 2026 6:30 PM

Moscow: The Kremlin said Russia is actively trying to de-escalate tensions around Iran. Moscow emphasized its readiness to help resolve disputes over Iran’s enriched uranium. Kremlin officials noted the issue has been on the agenda for a long time.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia has offered its services to process or store Iranian enriched uranium. He added that this proposal could remove irritants affecting several countries. Moscow continues to encourage dialogue between Iran and the United States.

Peskov emphasized that Russia is maintaining regular contact with all interested parties. He said the country remains committed to reducing regional tensions to the best of its ability. Officials noted that this initiative is part of Russia’s broader diplomatic efforts.

Analysts said Russia’s role could help stabilize the situation if Iran and the United States cooperate. They noted that previous offers by Russia have included handling enriched uranium safely to prevent further escalation. Moscow hopes dialogue can prevent misunderstandings and ease international concerns.
