Elon Musk's X crashes nationwide during Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show

SANTA CLARA – Elon Musk’s social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, suffered a widespread outage on Sunday, February 9, coinciding with Bad Bunny’s highly anticipated Super Bowl LX halftime performance at Levi’s Stadium.

According to Downdetector, more than 25,000 users across the United States reported issues, with roughly 75 percent of complaints coming from the mobile app and the remaining from the website. The outage affected major cities nationwide, from New York to Los Angeles.

The disruption left fans unable to post real-time reactions during Bad Bunny’s 13-minute set, prompting jokes across social media. One user quipped, “Bad Bunny has so much aura that X is being slow and crashing,” while another joked, “Suddenly X is down… Elon Musk working hard to make sure we don’t talk about Bad Bunny.”

The performance itself became a focal point amid broader discussions. Bad Bunny had previously called for “ICE out” during his Grammy speech, inspiring demonstrations outside Levi’s Stadium, where protesters waved supportive banners.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump skipped the game, reportedly favoring Kid Rock’s Turning Point USA halftime show over Bad Bunny’s performance.

Despite the digital blackout, Bad Bunny delivered a visually stunning and energetic show. Ahead of the event, he highlighted the cultural significance of his performance, telling fans, “The world is going to be happy this Sunday… You always have to be proud of who you are and feel comfortable being yourself.”

The outage underscores the vulnerability of digital platforms during high-traffic events and highlights the challenges faced by social media networks in managing real-time global engagement.
