Durefishan Saleem gets emotional over Lahore’s Glitz at Basant Festival

LAHORE – Lahore came alive in a kaleidoscope of colors, kites, and festive energy during the recently celebrated Basant festival, and actress Durefishan Saleem couldn’t help but express her admiration.

The 30-year-old star of As Sher shared her reflections on Instagram, recalling childhood memories while immersing herself in the city’s spirited celebrations. “Made it to Lahore for a few hours just because my FOMO wouldn’t let me sit still and that’s rare for me. I had only heard stories, held a few blurred memories and pictures from when I was four but seeing Lahore like this today felt truly wholesome and heartfelt,” she wrote.

Saleem also highlighted deeper reflections beyond the festivities. “But in all the glitz, colour, and celebration, I hope we don’t forget to ask for more. To question what we’re told. To demand better—for ourselves, and even more so for the generations to follow. To not choose silence just because it’s easier,” she added.

Accompanying her post was a carousel of stunning photos, featuring Saleem in a traditional white and yellow shalwar kameez paired with matching bangles. The final photo captured the actress with a kite, encapsulating the spirit of Lahore’s beloved festival. She concluded her post with a heartfelt message: “May we stay loud when it matters, humane in our choices, and zinda-dil as ever. Ps I love my city — its people, and its beautiful habit of celebrating every little joy like it might be our last because that’s what life is all about.”

The Basant festival returned last December after almost two decades, following the Punjab government’s decision to lift the kite-flying ban, albeit under strict regulations. The event continues to be a hallmark of Lahore’s cultural identity, blending tradition, joy, and communal spirit.
