Afghan Taliban must choose between Pakistan and terrorists: DG ISPR

Published on: February 27, 2026 10:30 PM

Pakistan’s military spokesperson DG ISPR has said the Afghan Taliban must make a clear choice between supporting Pakistan or backing terrorist groups, as tensions escalate along the Pak-Afghan border following recent clashes and military operations.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry made the remarks during a detailed briefing on Pakistan’s response to what he described as unprovoked aggression by Afghan Taliban forces and affiliated militants. He said attacks were carried out at 53 locations along the border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, involving weapons, physical raids, and drone incursions.

He stated that Pakistan’s armed forces responded immediately and effectively, repelling the attacks at all locations and launching Operation Ghazab lil-Haq in self-defence. According to official estimates, at least 274 Afghan Taliban personnel and affiliated militants were killed, over 400 injured, and dozens of posts destroyed or captured during the operation. Pakistan also targeted military installations and logistical bases believed to be supporting terrorist activities.

The military spokesperson emphasised that Pakistan exercised extreme caution to avoid civilian casualties, stating that only military targets were struck based on intelligence assessments. He added that Afghan Taliban forces had used quadcopters and other weapons, which were successfully neutralised by Pakistan’s defence systems.

Lieutenant General Chaudhry warned that Pakistan would respond decisively to any future terrorist activity or aggression, asserting that the country’s armed forces remain fully prepared to defend national sovereignty and protect citizens. He also accused terrorist groups, including Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and others, of operating from Afghan territory with support and coordination.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to eliminating terrorism and said the nation remained united in its resolve. Paying tribute to fallen soldiers and frontline security personnel, he stressed that Pakistan’s armed forces would continue operations under civilian leadership to ensure long-term peace, stability, and national security.
