Shehbaz visits GHQ amid escalating Pak-Afghan clashes

Published on: February 27, 2026 9:00 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the General Headquarters to receive a detailed briefing on rising tensions with Afghanistan. Military officials outlined recent cross-border clashes and retaliatory operations. The situation matters as escalating violence affects border security, troops, and regional stability.

During the briefing at GHQ, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, presented operational details. He said Pakistani forces destroyed more than 73 Afghan Taliban posts and 115 tanks. The military claimed 274 Taliban operatives were killed and over 400 injured in retaliatory strikes.

However, the clashes also resulted in Pakistani casualties. According to the military, 12 soldiers were martyred, 27 were injured, and one remains missing. Tensions between Islamabad and Kabul have intensified following a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan’s border areas.

Moreover, the prime minister directed authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against what he described as the nexus between Fitna al-Khawarij and the Afghan Taliban regime. He emphasized the need to counter subversive activities threatening national security. The statement underscored firm resolve against cross-border militancy.
