Electricity rates have increased by Rs 1.63 per unit across Pakistan, including Karachi, the regulatory authority announced. The hike is part of the fuel price adjustment for January and will be reflected in March electricity bills. The decision affects most consumers nationwide.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued the official notification, confirming the increase under the fuel price adjustment mechanism. The adjustment aims to cover rising fuel costs for power generation.

According to NEPRA, the increase will not apply to lifeline consumers or electric vehicle charging stations. This exemption ensures relief for low-consumption households and supports the growing EV infrastructure in the country.
NEPRA had reserved its decision following a hearing on January fuel price adjustments. The final notification formalizes the earlier provisional decision and informs distribution companies to implement the revised tariffs.
