Mojtaba Khamenei Named Iran’s New Supreme Leader: State Media

Published on: March 9, 2026 3:43 AM

new Supreme Leader

Iran’s state media has reported that Mojtaba Khamenei named new Supreme Leader of Iran after the country’s leadership transition. According to reports, the decision was announced by Iran’s Assembly of Experts, which urged the nation to stay united and support the new leadership during the current situation.

The Assembly of Experts called on the Iranian people to maintain national unity and loyalty to the new leader. Officials said that stability and solidarity are very important for the country during this sensitive period.

Reports say Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has never run for any public office and has never been elected through a public vote. However, he has long been considered an influential figure within the inner circle of Iran’s leadership.

The 56-year-old cleric is believed to have strong ties with Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard. Despite years of speculation about succession, Mojtaba Khamenei had rarely spoken publicly about the possibility of becoming the country’s next supreme leader.

Meanwhile, international reactions have also emerged after the announcement. Former US President Donald Trump had earlier warned that any new Iranian Supreme Leader would need approval from the United States, while Israeli officials also warned that the new leadership could become a target. As a result, Mojtaba Khamenei named new Supreme Leader of Iran continues to draw global attention.
