The city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 147, placing it in the category of “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
This means that individuals who are more vulnerable to air pollution – including children, the elderly, and people suffering from respiratory or heart diseases – may begin to experience adverse health effects and are advised to limit prolonged outdoor activities.
Data also showed that the concentration of PM2.5, the most dangerous type of fine particulate matter, reached levels 10.8 times higher than the annual guideline value recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Such tiny particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and even enter the bloodstream, increasing the risk of respiratory infections, heart disease, and other long-term health problems.
Environmental experts warn that continued exposure to elevated PM2.5 levels can significantly impact public health, urging authorities and citizens to take preventive measures to reduce pollution and limit exposure during periods of poor air quality.
