PM speaks with Iranian president before Saudi visit

Published on: March 14, 2026 2:00 AM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian before traveling to Saudi Arabia, officials confirmed. The discussion focused on regional stability and Muslim nations’ security concerns. Shahbaz met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to reaffirm Pakistan’s full solidarity with the kingdom.

Rana Sanaullah, political affairs advisor to the Prime Minister, said Pakistan is fully engaged with Muslim nations to prevent conflicts. He emphasized that Iran should not target Saudi Arabia or other Muslim countries under any circumstances. Pakistan hopes conversations with Iran and Saudi Arabia will improve regional relations.

He clarified that Pakistan maintains a defensive agreement with Saudi Arabia and follows good diplomatic practices. “Saudi Arabia is refraining from reacting directly, so others should not demand reactions,” he explained. The Prime Minister aims for peaceful dialogue and strategic coordination in the region.

Regarding Sindh’s governor change, Rana Sanaullah said the decision followed proper procedure. He stated that previous appointments were made by caretaker setups, and N-League now holds the Sindh governorship. MQM had no formal claim over the position, and all coordination with the party has been maintained carefully.
