Rain and thunderstorms set to cool major Pakistani cities

Published on: March 16, 2026 5:06 PM

Intermittent rainfall continued across Lahore for the second consecutive day, bringing noticeable relief from rising temperatures and improving weather conditions across surrounding areas. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the city is likely to experience partly cloudy skies and occasional light showers over the coming days.

Officials reported that rainfall and strong winds during the past two days lowered temperatures in Lahore by nearly four degrees Celsius. As a result, residents experienced cooler weather compared to the previous week when temperatures had started rising sharply across the provincial capital.

Meteorologists stated that the minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded at around 12 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach approximately 22 degrees today. Furthermore, intermittent rainfall may continue throughout the day, keeping the weather pleasant and relatively cool compared with typical seasonal conditions.

Meanwhile, weather authorities also forecast rainfall and thunderstorms in Karachi later this week. According to the Early Warning Center, a strong westerly weather system is expected to enter the country soon, which could trigger thunderstorms across Karachi on March 18.

Officials warned that certain areas of the city may also experience hailstorms along with sudden gusty winds during the rainfall. In addition, the same weather system could bring rain and thunder to several districts of interior Sindh between March 18 and 19.

Weather conditions are also expected to remain partly cloudy in Islamabad and nearby regions, where temperatures dropped following heavy rainfall earlier. Meanwhile, several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may receive rain, while snowfall is predicted in higher mountainous areas, signaling a widespread shift in weather patterns across parts of Pakistan.
