PM Shehbaz emphasizes energy conservation amid Middle East conflict impact

Published on: March 29, 2026 3:23 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government is taking active measures to lessen the effects of the ongoing Middle East conflict on Pakistan’s economy and energy sector. He highlighted that rising global energy prices are putting additional pressure on households nationwide.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Prime Minister linked energy conservation to broader economic relief, urging citizens to reduce consumption during Earth Hour. He stressed that small actions, like saving electricity, can collectively ease the burden on families across Pakistan.

Sharif noted that energy conservation is also part of Pakistan’s responsibility as a steward of the environment. He called on communities and businesses to adopt sustainable practices, emphasizing that protecting natural resources aligns with long-term economic stability.

The Prime Minister underscored the importance of national solidarity in facing external challenges, particularly disruptions caused by conflicts abroad. He said that coordinated efforts in energy use and resource management are critical for mitigating indirect impacts on Pakistan.

He encouraged citizens to actively participate in Earth Hour, describing it as an opportunity to contribute both to environmental preservation and to easing the country’s economic strain. Participation, he said, reflects civic responsibility and awareness.

Sharif concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to policies that address energy efficiency, economic stability, and environmental sustainability, linking domestic efforts to broader global challenges posed by international conflicts.
