UK, France criticised as Trump lashes over Hormuz oil crisis

Published on: March 31, 2026 11:48 PM

U.S. President Donald Trump criticized the United Kingdom and France for not participating in the Iran conflict. He warned these countries to buy jet fuel from the U.S. or risk obtaining oil themselves via the Strait of Hormuz. His remarks highlight growing tensions and signal potential shifts in Western military coordination.

Trump made the comments in a social media statement, emphasizing that the UK refused to join efforts to topple Iran’s government. He said France blocked military planes from transporting equipment to Israel through French airspace, undermining allied cooperation in the region.

The former president urged nations unable to secure jet fuel due to Hormuz to purchase from the U.S., which has ample supply. He suggested countries could instead take the risk of going to the Strait of Hormuz themselves to acquire fuel. Trump stressed America will no longer support every nation in such crises.

Trump further warned that nations must learn to defend themselves and cannot rely on U.S. assistance. “America will not be there to help you, just as you were not with us,” he said, signaling a tougher stance on allied obligations. His comments reflect frustration over perceived lack of support during escalating regional tensions.

He claimed that Iran has been largely destroyed and the most difficult part of the conflict is over. Trump encouraged countries to act independently to secure oil, highlighting his message of self-reliance for allies in the Middle East. The remarks come amid ongoing concerns over oil security and regional instability.
