Despite challenges, Pakistan backs US-Iran diplomacy: FO

Published on: April 2, 2026 5:29 PM

Pakistan expressed optimism about ongoing United States-Iran talks despite regional tensions and conflicting rhetoric. The development matters as continued diplomacy could reduce conflict and stabilize global trade routes. Regional economies, shipping operations, and diplomatic stakeholders remain directly affected by the situation.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan supports dialogue to end hostilities and achieve lasting peace. He emphasized that recent diplomatic initiatives aim to create sustainable solutions. Moreover, he highlighted the five-point peace plan announced in Beijing. He also referenced the seven-point outcome of quadrilateral talks held in Islamabad.

Meanwhile, Pakistan reaffirmed its role as a facilitator trusted by both the United States and Iran. Andrabi noted that both sides showed confidence in Pakistan’s mediation efforts. However, he clarified that decisions about talks rest with the involved parties. He also rejected claims that Pakistan pressured Iran to accept United States demands.

In addition, Andrabi confirmed that Iran allowed 20 more Pakistan-flagged ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Two vessels are expected to cross the strategic route daily. This step signals improving cooperation and helps ease concerns about trade disruptions. It also supports confidence-building measures in a tense region.

Furthermore, Pakistan dismissed misinformation about the talks and warned against fake news campaigns. Officials also reiterated engagement with global partners, including Europe and Gulf countries. The Foreign Office stressed that diplomatic outreach would continue despite obstacles. These efforts aim to sustain dialogue and prevent further escalation.
