ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important advisory urging mobile users to keep their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) updated to ensure uninterrupted cellular services.

In a statement shared on social media, the authority emphasized that maintaining valid and updated identity records is essential for continued access to mobile networks. It warned that SIM cards registered against expired CNICs or under another person’s name could be blocked without prior notice.

The PTA said the move is part of its broader efforts to ensure secure and reliable telecommunications services across the country while protecting consumer interests. Users were strongly advised to renew expired CNICs promptly to avoid any disruption.
The regulator also reiterated that SIM ownership must match the user’s identity, in line with national verification policies aimed at preventing misuse of mobile connections. Authorities believe that accurate registration data plays a key role in enhancing security and transparency in the telecom sector.
In a related development, the PTA highlighted another consumer-focused initiative to help users avoid unexpected mobile balance deductions. The authority previously advised citizens to activate a free “Balance Save” or Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) blocker service offered by telecom operators.
This service automatically disables mobile data once a user’s internet package expires, preventing additional charges at higher PAYG rates. The PTA noted that many users unknowingly continue using mobile data after their bundles are consumed, leading to unintended balance loss.
