KARACHI: The Sindh government has approved the launch of Safe City Project Phase-II aimed at significantly strengthening surveillance and law enforcement capabilities across Karachi, according to officials.

The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah PPP at the CM House, where the scope, budget, and implementation timeline of the project were formally reviewed and approved.
Under the new phase, more than 2,300 smart surveillance cameras will be installed across key areas of Karachi. The system will include advanced technologies such as automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) and facial recognition tools to improve monitoring and assist law enforcement agencies in identifying criminal activity.

Officials said the project, estimated at Rs9.98 billion, is scheduled to be completed within 12 months, with implementation expected to begin in May 2026. Authorities described the initiative as a major upgrade to the city’s existing security infrastructure.
In addition to fixed surveillance systems, the project will also incorporate modern security features including drone monitoring, panic buttons in sensitive locations, and rapid response units to improve emergency reaction times.
During the meeting, the chief minister emphasized that public safety remains the government’s top priority. He directed concerned departments to ensure timely execution of the project without delays and stressed the importance of maintaining high standards during implementation.
Officials briefed the meeting that the upgraded Safe City network will be integrated with command and control systems to enable real-time monitoring and faster coordination between law enforcement agencies.
The initiative is expected to enhance crime prevention, improve traffic management, and strengthen overall urban security in Karachi, one of Pakistan’s largest and most densely populated cities.
