IFATCA lauds Pakistan air traffic staff

Published on: April 14, 2026 6:53 PM

The International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations has praised the professionalism of Pakistan’s air traffic controllers during recent regional airspace disruptions. The recognition highlights their role in maintaining safe and efficient air navigation under increased pressure. The acknowledgment matters for global aviation safety and regional flight operations.

According to a letter from IFATCA Asia-Pacific Vice President Cheryl Chen, Pakistan managed significant air traffic increases in recent weeks. She said geopolitical developments led to diversions from neighbouring airspace. As a result, Pakistan’s airspace handled higher volumes of non-scheduled flights.

Chen noted that air traffic controllers maintained high safety and efficiency standards despite operational challenges. She added that staff worked under sustained pressure with extended duties and limited leave. Therefore, their performance demonstrated strong commitment to global aviation continuity.

The Pakistan Airports Authority shared the IFATCA letter, confirming the international recognition. IFATCA is an apolitical global body representing air traffic control associations in more than 130 countries. It provides training, representation, and professional development support.

Chen described Pakistan’s efforts as exceptional and praised the contribution of its air traffic control workforce. She said their role was vital in ensuring global aviation safety during disruptions. Authorities said the recognition reflects Pakistan’s strategic importance in international air routes.
