Pindi railways station sees passengers rush amid transport suspension

Published on: April 22, 2026 9:11 AM

An unusual rush of passengers was witnessed at Rawalpindi Railway Station on Tuesday, following the suspension of public and private transport services in the twin cities, prompting the authorities to step up arrangements.

On the directives of Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, Divisional Superintendent Pakistan Railways Rawalpindi Division, Nooruddin Dawar visited the station along with senior officials to review the situation.

During the visit, he inspected passenger facilities, ticketing arrangements, waiting areas, cleanliness and security measures. He directed officials to utilize all available resources to facilitate passengers and minimize inconvenience.

He further instructed that additional staff be deployed, information counters remain functional and train operations be ensured on schedule to ease the pressure caused by the surge.

The divisional superintendent said Pakistan Railways remained committed to facilitating passengers during difficult situations, adding that despite closure of other transport services in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the railways was making all-out efforts to ensure smooth travel.

He noted that a higher than usual number of passengers were travelling from Islamabad, but expressed satisfaction over the overall arrangements.
