Zalmi set 222 target after Babar’s century sinks Islamabad hopes

Published on: April 28, 2026 9:50 PM

Peshawar Zalmi posted a commanding 221 in the PSL qualifier against Islamabad United. Babar Azam’s brilliant century anchored the innings and set a daunting 222-run target. The result puts both teams under pressure, with a direct final spot at stake.

Peshawar Zalmi delivered a strong batting performance after being sent in to bat first. Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan chose to field after winning the toss. However, the decision backfired as Zalmi’s top order built steady momentum. The team maintained a high scoring rate throughout the innings.

Babar Azam led from the front with an outstanding 103 off 59 balls. His innings included controlled aggression and precise shot selection. This marked his 13th T20 century and fourth in PSL history. Meanwhile, his knock provided stability during crucial phases of the innings.

In support, Mohammad Haris scored 35 runs with quick strokes. Additionally, Kusal Mendis contributed 41 runs to strengthen the total. Aamer Jamal added a useful 20 runs in the final overs. Despite these efforts, Islamabad’s bowlers struggled to contain the scoring flow.

Shadab Khan picked up three wickets, offering some resistance for Islamabad. Richard Gleeson also claimed two wickets during the innings. However, the high target now places pressure on Islamabad’s batting lineup. Notably, the winner advances directly to the final, while the loser gets another opportunity.
