Trump reviews Iranian proposal amid Pakistan mediated diplomacy talks

Published on: May 3, 2026 3:46 PM

Donald Trump is currently reviewing a new proposal from Iran that was delivered through Pakistan as part of ongoing mediation efforts aimed at ending the prolonged conflict. Speaking before boarding Air Force One, he said he would assess the exact wording before making any final decision.

According to Iranian media sources, Tehran has sent a fourteen-point proposal through Pakistan in response to an earlier nine-point American plan. The proposal reportedly seeks a permanent end to hostilities, while maintaining Iran’s position on key strategic and diplomatic issues under international mediation channels.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that the proposal was officially delivered to Pakistan, which continues to play a mediating role in talks between the two sides. He briefed foreign diplomats in Tehran and emphasized Iran’s commitment to diplomacy while maintaining readiness for defence.

Furthermore, Iranian officials stated that responsibility now lies with the United States to choose between diplomatic engagement or continued confrontation. They also expressed deep mistrust toward Washington, while still keeping communication channels open through indirect negotiations and regional partners.

At the same time, discussions involving China and Russia have also taken place, focusing on the newly submitted draft and broader regional stability concerns. Earlier negotiations held in Islamabad failed to produce a breakthrough, although a fragile ceasefire continues to hold despite ongoing tensions.

Additionally, both sides remain divided over key issues including nuclear concerns and control of strategic waterways, with previous Iranian proposals rejected by Washington. The situation remains uncertain as diplomatic exchanges continue alongside warnings of possible escalation if talks fail to progress.
