Drone attack reported in Hormuz Strait, UAE says

Published on: May 4, 2026 10:00 PM

The United Arab Emirates has alleged that Iran launched two drones targeting an oil tanker linked to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company in the Strait of Hormuz. The incident comes amid rising tensions in the strategically important waterway, which handles a significant share of global oil shipments.

According to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the attack involved the use of two drones aimed at the commercial vessel while it was transiting through the Strait of Hormuz. Authorities confirmed that there were no reports of casualties in the incident.

The UAE strongly condemned the alleged strike, saying that targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for economic pressure or blackmail amounts to acts similar to piracy. The statement also criticized actions attributed to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

Officials stressed that ensuring safe navigation in international waters is essential for global trade and regional stability. They warned that such incidents could further escalate tensions in an already volatile maritime environment.

The development adds to ongoing regional concerns over security in the Gulf, where multiple incidents involving vessels have been reported in recent months. International observers are closely monitoring the situation as fears of disruption to global energy supplies continue to grow.
