Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said that protecting media workers remains one of the government’s top priorities, assuring steps to improve job security and working conditions in the media sector.

Speaking on a point of order in the National Assembly on Monday, the minister said both federal and provincial governments are actively engaged in supporting media organisations facing operational and financial challenges. He added that efforts are underway to ensure the long-term sustainability of media channels while safeguarding employment in the sector.

Tarar said the issue of job security for media workers would be taken up with the Pakistan Broadcasters Association to ensure that no employee loses their job due to financial or structural pressures. He emphasised that protecting media professionals is essential for maintaining a free and functional information environment.
He further stated that the government is working on improving the service structure, benefits, and employment conditions of media workers. According to him, these arrangements will be finalised through broad-based consultations with stakeholders in the industry.
The minister said that a structured and systematic approach is being adopted to resolve the challenges faced by media employees, including salary delays, job insecurity, and organisational instability in some media houses.
He also highlighted that consultations would include coalition partners as well as opposition members in order to build consensus on long-term solutions for the sector.
Tarar stressed that the government recognises the importance of media workers in strengthening democracy and ensuring the flow of information to the public. He said their welfare is directly linked to the health of the media industry as a whole.
