Published on: May 12, 2026 3:30 PM

Police in Rawalpindi have arrested a domestic worker and her alleged accomplice in connection with the theft of Rs2.9 million from a house in the city.

According to police officials, the case was registered on May 2 at New Town police station after a complaint was filed regarding the missing cash from a residential property.

Investigators said the arrested woman had been employed at the house and was living with her parents in servant quarters located on the premises.

During the investigation, police gathered evidence that led to the detention of the domestic worker. Authorities later arrested her alleged accomplice as part of the same operation.

Police said the accused woman has confessed to carrying out the theft with the help of her associate.

Officials added that the suspects allegedly planned the theft after becoming aware of the presence of a large amount of cash inside the residence.

Further details regarding recovery of the stolen money have not yet been officially disclosed, while investigations are continuing to determine whether any additional individuals were involved.

Law enforcement authorities said the arrests were made through a combination of technical investigation, witness statements and intelligence gathering.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns around internal theft cases involving domestic staff and the need for proper employee verification procedures.

Police have urged residents to ensure that domestic workers and household employees are registered through proper background checks and documented hiring processes.

The accused are expected to be presented before a court for legal proceedings, while the investigation team continues efforts to recover the stolen amount and complete the case file.

Officials said more details will be shared as the investigation progresses. The case has attracted public attention due to the large amount involved and the alleged role of a trusted employee in the theft. Police say strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible under the law.
