The United States Department of State has approved a major defence support package for India involving Apache attack helicopter services and equipment, marking another step in deepening military cooperation between the two countries.

According to the State Department, the approved deal covers support services and technical equipment for India’s existing Apache fleet, with an estimated value of $198.2 million.

Officials confirmed that major US defence contractors, including Boeing and Lockheed Martin, will serve as principal contractors for the agreement.

The proposed sale includes #Apache #helicopter sustainment support services valued at an estimated $198.2 million and long-term support for M777A2 Ultra-Light Howitzers worth around $230 million.

The package includes a range of operational support components such as pilot training, simulation systems, maintenance services, spare parts, and other technical assistance required to keep the helicopters fully operational.

India currently operates around 28 Apache attack helicopters, which are considered among the most advanced combat helicopters in the world and are widely used for precision strike and battlefield support missions.

In a separate approval, the US State Department also cleared a support package for ultra-light howitzers, valued at approximately $230 million, further expanding India’s access to advanced defence systems and logistical support.

Officials said such agreements are part of routine foreign military sales that aim to strengthen defence interoperability between partner nations and ensure sustained operational readiness of US-made systems in allied countries.

The approvals come amid continued expansion of US-India strategic and defence ties, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region, where both countries have increased cooperation in response to evolving security challenges.

Defence analysts say the latest packages reflect Washington’s ongoing commitment to India as a key strategic partner, especially in areas of defence modernisation, technology transfer, and military readiness.

The deal is expected to enhance India’s existing combat aviation capabilities while ensuring long-term maintenance and operational efficiency of its Apache fleet through continued US technical support.
