Pakistan joins global flotilla condemnation

Published on: May 19, 2026 10:05 PM

Pakistan and nine other countries have strongly condemned Israeli assaults on the Global Sumud Flotilla in a joint diplomatic statement. The countries urged the immediate release of detained activists and called for respect for international law and humanitarian protections. The development matters because it highlights rising international concern over civilian maritime missions and regional tensions.

The joint statement was issued by the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Turkiye, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Jordan, Libya, Maldives, and Spain. The ministers expressed grave concern over repeated Israeli interventions against flotillas operating in international waters. They said such actions target civilian vessels and humanitarian workers engaged in peaceful missions.

The statement further condemned what it described as arbitrary detention of activists and attacks on humanitarian vessels. It emphasized that these actions violate international law and international humanitarian law. Additionally, the ministers warned that repeated assaults undermine freedom of navigation and peaceful humanitarian operations.

The signatories expressed serious concern for the safety and security of all civilian participants involved in the flotilla. They demanded the immediate release of all detained activists without conditions. Moreover, they called for full respect for the dignity and rights of those affected by the incidents. The countries urged accountability for violations and an end to impunity.

The ministers also appealed to the international community to take legal and moral responsibility in protecting humanitarian missions. They stressed the need for concrete measures to prevent further attacks on civilian initiatives at sea. Observers say the joint statement reflects growing diplomatic pressure over maritime humanitarian operations in conflict zones.
