US lawmaker questions Iran war strategy in heated Senate hearing

Published on: May 20, 2026 12:46 PM

ڈیموکریٹک رکن کانگریس نے ایران جنگ پر سوالات کرکے کمانڈر سینٹرل کمان کو لاجواب کردیا

A heated exchange took place in the US Senate as Democratic Congressman Seth Moulton challenged senior military leadership over the ongoing strategy regarding a potential conflict with Iran, raising sharp questions about the planning and consequences of possible military action.

During a congressional committee briefing, Moulton questioned Admiral Cooper about the rationale behind the conflict and whether key outcomes had been properly considered before escalating tensions.

He asked why, if former President Donald Trump had already claimed that Iran’s nuclear program had been destroyed, further military escalation was necessary. Moulton suggested that contradictory statements raised doubts about the credibility of the administration’s justification for war-related planning.

The congressman also questioned whether US planners had anticipated Iran potentially closing the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route. He asked if reopening the strait would require external diplomatic pressure, including involvement from China, highlighting what he described as a lack of strategic foresight.

Moulton further raised concerns about the economic impact of the conflict, pointing to a reported 56 percent increase in oil prices and asking whether such consequences were part of the original war planning assumptions.

He warned that escalating tensions could put additional American troops at risk and questioned whether the US was adequately prepared for prolonged conflict. “It looks like we are losing the war against Iran,” he remarked during the session.

The exchange highlighted growing political divisions in Washington over foreign policy decisions in the Middle East and raised renewed debate about the costs and objectives of potential military engagement with Iran.

The Central Command leadership has not yet issued a detailed public response to the specific questions raised during the hearing.
