Shehbaz vows people-friendly budget steps

Published on: June 4, 2026 2:00 AM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the upcoming federal budget will include measures aimed at providing relief to the public. The announcement matters because households and businesses are seeking support amid economic challenges. The proposed measures could affect consumers, taxpayers, and investors across Pakistan.

The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with leading industrialists and business leaders in Islamabad. Participants included prominent businessmen such as Mian Mansha, Arif Habib, Atif Bajwa, Muhammad Ali Tabba, Musadaq Zulqarnain and Ziad Bashir. Shehbaz thanked the business community for supporting the government during difficult economic conditions.

The prime minister said a strong partnership between the government and the private sector remains essential for sustainable economic growth. He stressed that consultation with the business community plays a key role in economic policymaking. According to him, export-led growth remains the central pillar of the government’s economic strategy.

Shehbaz also said the government is taking steps to bring the informal economy into the tax net. He noted that broadening the tax base is necessary to strengthen public finances and support long-term economic stability. Officials are expected to finalise budget proposals after consultations with key stakeholders.
