Pakistan, Iran discuss stronger border security cooperation

Pakistan and Iran have agreed to enhance cooperation on border security and internal safety matters following a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

The meeting focused on a range of issues of mutual interest, including border management, regional stability and efforts to curb illegal cross-border activities. Both sides reviewed the current security situation in the region and discussed ways to strengthen coordination between their respective institutions.

According to officials, the ministers exchanged views on improving security cooperation along the Pakistan-Iran border, with particular emphasis on enhancing border controls and addressing common security challenges. They also explored measures aimed at preventing unlawful activities and improving law and order in border areas.

During the talks, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration in the field of internal security. They agreed that closer coordination between law enforcement agencies would help both nations respond more effectively to emerging threats and maintain stability in the region.

Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan highly values its relations with Iran and remains committed to promoting peace, stability and constructive cooperation with its neighbouring country. He emphasised the importance of maintaining strong bilateral ties and working together to address security concerns affecting both nations.

Eskandar Momeni also highlighted the significance of strengthening security cooperation between the two countries. He stressed that enhanced collaboration and information-sharing would contribute to addressing shared challenges and improving security along the border.

The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain close communication and continue joint efforts aimed at strengthening border management and regional security. Officials said the discussions reflected the commitment of Pakistan and Iran to deepen bilateral cooperation and foster a stable and secure environment in the region.

The engagement comes as both countries seek greater coordination to address evolving security challenges and promote long-term regional stability.
