Pakistan dealt injury blow ahead of Pro Hockey League

Published on: June 5, 2026 5:59 PM

Pakistan’s hockey team has suffered a significant setback ahead of its upcoming Pro Hockey League campaign after two important players were ruled out through injuries. The development comes at a crucial stage as the national side finalizes preparations for a demanding series of international fixtures against strong European opponents.

Head coach Manzoor Ul Hassan Senior confirmed that forward Hanan Shahid and midfielder Sufyan Khan will miss the tournament due to fitness concerns. Their absence is expected to affect the squad’s balance, as both players have played important roles in Pakistan’s recent performances and tactical plans.

According to the coaching staff, Hanan Shahid sustained a hamstring injury that requires recovery time before he can return to competitive action. Meanwhile, Sufyan Khan has been sidelined with a knee injury, leaving the team without another experienced option ahead of key matches.

Following the injury setbacks, the management moved quickly to strengthen the squad by naming replacements. Abdul Manan and Basharat Ali have been added to the national team, with officials expressing confidence that both players can contribute positively during the upcoming international campaign.

The changes come as Pakistan prepares for important Pro Hockey League fixtures against Belgium and Spain, two sides known for their strong performances on the international stage. The coaching staff will now focus on helping the revised squad adjust quickly before the competition begins.

Pakistan’s squad is scheduled to depart from Karachi for Belgium on June 10 as preparations enter their final phase. Despite the injury concerns, team management remains hopeful that the players available can deliver competitive performances and make a strong impression during the tournament.
