Over 9,565 violators arrested for kite flying

Published on: June 9, 2026 3:46 AM

Punjab Police have intensified province-wide crackdown against kite flying and related violations, arresting more than 9,565 individuals and recovering hundreds of thousands of kites and string reels during ongoing operations.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, a total of 9,219 cases were registered under the Anti-Kite Flying Act across the province, including Lahore, during the campaign this year. The spokesperson said that police teams recovered 466,986 kites and 14,574 string reels during operations conducted in various districts of Punjab.

Giving details of the crackdown in the provincial capital, the spokesperson said that 4,395 accused were arrested and 4,233 cases registered in Lahore. Police also recovered 118,931 kites and 4,616 string reels from different parts of the city. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem directed field formations to continue indiscriminate action against those involved in kite flying and related activities, stating that the dangerous practice would not be tolerated anywhere in the province.

He further directed police officers to bring individuals involved in the online sale and distribution of metallic strings and kites within the ambit of the law.

The IGP appealed to parents to keep their children away from the hazardous activity and closely monitor their movements and recreational activities.
