Google has introduced a major upgrade to NotebookLM, transforming the platform from a research-focused assistant into a more advanced AI-powered workspace. The latest version brings stronger reasoning abilities, code execution features and expanded productivity tools, allowing users to handle a broader range of professional and academic tasks within a single environment.
The upgraded system now runs on Gemini 3.5 alongside Google’s Antigravity coding model, significantly improving its ability to write and execute code. Each notebook operates in a dedicated cloud-based environment and supports more than 100 built-in software skills, enabling users to manage complex projects with greater efficiency and flexibility.

According to Google, the new version delivers notable performance improvements across several key areas. The company reports a 69.9 percent improvement in large document analysis and a 78.2 percent performance score in web research tasks, highlighting the platform’s growing capability to process information and generate useful insights.
In addition, NotebookLM can now write and run code, perform structured data analysis, automate research processes and extract findings from complex documents. These enhancements make the platform increasingly valuable for developers, analysts, researchers and students working with technical information or large datasets.

One of the most significant additions is the ability to generate downloadable files directly from the platform. Users can create PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, CSV files, images and data visualizations, while also providing formatting instructions and requesting revisions to refine the final output.
Google has also simplified the research process by allowing users to begin with a simple idea or question instead of building a complete source library beforehand. The system can automatically gather relevant information, while users maintain control over selected sources and receive clear attribution, making NotebookLM a more accessible and powerful tool for productivity and research.
