Taylor Swift’s country comeback sparks Oscar buzz

Published on: June 18, 2026 3:42 PM

Taylor Swift has made a remarkable return to country music, and the move is already generating significant attention across both the music and film industries. The global superstar recently released her new song, I Knew It, I Knew You, for the upcoming movie Toy Story 5, marking her first major country-focused release in more than a decade. The track quickly gained momentum and demonstrated Swift’s ability to reconnect with the genre that launched her career while reaching new audiences through a major film franchise.

The song achieved an extraordinary milestone shortly after its release, earning support from all 157 Mediabase-tracked country radio stations. This rare achievement, known as “closing the panel,” highlights the strong confidence that radio programmers have placed in the track. Industry observers note that only a handful of songs have previously achieved such unanimous backing, making Swift’s latest success a standout moment in country music.

Meanwhile, the song’s connection to Toy Story 5 has sparked early discussions about a possible awards season run. Entertainment analysts have begun mentioning the track as a potential contender for the Best Original Song category at the 2027 Academy Awards. Although the nomination process remains in its early stages, the song’s strong reception has placed Swift in conversations typically dominated by established film composers and soundtrack specialists.

The Academy Awards will first evaluate eligible songs through a shortlist process before selecting the final nominees. As anticipation builds, Swift’s latest release could strengthen her pursuit of one of the entertainment industry’s most exclusive achievements. An Oscar win would move her a step closer to joining the small group of performers who have earned an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award, commonly known as an EGOT.

Swift already possesses one of the most impressive award collections in modern entertainment. Throughout her career, she has earned 49 Billboard Music Awards, 40 American Music Awards, 30 MTV Video Music Awards, 14 Grammy Awards, 12 Country Music Association Awards, eight CMT Music Awards, two Brit Awards and an Emmy. These achievements have established her as one of the most decorated artists of her generation.

Furthermore, the strong launch of I Knew It, I Knew You demonstrates Swift’s continued influence across multiple entertainment sectors. Whether through chart-topping albums, record-breaking tours or film soundtrack contributions, she continues to expand her reach and redefine industry expectations. With Oscar speculation already gaining momentum, her latest project could become another major milestone in an already historic career.
