PPP, PML-N agree GB government deal

Published on: June 18, 2026 6:20 PM

Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz have reached an agreement to form a government in Gilgit-Baltistan. The deal finalizes a power-sharing arrangement between the two major political parties. The development is expected to shape the region’s political landscape.

PPP leader Naveed Qamar confirmed the agreement in a media interaction. He said both sides had reached consensus on key positions, including the offices of governor and deputy speaker. The agreement follows recent high-level contacts between the party leadership.

Under the arrangement, the governor and deputy speaker posts will go to the PML-N. Meanwhile, the chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan will be from the PPP. The agreement reflects a negotiated power-sharing formula between the coalition partners.

Sources said the deal was finalized after meetings and discussions between senior leadership from both parties. The PPP is expected to form the government in the region with support from PML-N lawmakers. The agreement marks a significant political development in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Further details of cabinet formation and administrative responsibilities are expected to be announced after formal procedures. The coalition is likely to move forward with a shared governance framework in the coming days.
