Pakistan protests Karachi attack to Afghanistan

Published on: June 29, 2026 5:45 PM

Islamabad: Pakistan has summoned Afghanistan’s chargé d’affaires and lodged a formal protest over the Karachi terrorist attack. The Foreign Office said investigations found Afghan nationals were involved in the assault, prompting diplomatic action against the Afghan Taliban authorities. The move comes as Pakistan intensifies efforts to address cross-border terrorism.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the Afghan chargé d’affaires was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday night. During the meeting, Pakistan delivered a formal demarche condemning the attack and raising concerns over the involvement of Afghan nationals. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani, also presented a similar protest to Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry in Kabul.

The diplomatic action followed Saturday’s bomb and gun attack on a Sindh Rangers facility in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar area. According to the military, militants detonated an explosive at the camp entrance before opening fire on security personnel. The attack martyred three Rangers personnel and injured four others.

The Foreign Office said investigations established that Afghan nationals, including one suspect arrested alive, participated in the attack. Officials stated the findings reinforced Pakistan’s longstanding concerns about militants using Afghan territory to plan and launch attacks inside Pakistan.

Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan authorities to prevent militant groups from using Afghan soil against its security interests. The latest demarches reflect Islamabad’s continued diplomatic engagement with Kabul over cross-border terrorism and regional security concerns.
