‘Michael’ beats ‘Oppenheimer’ with record-breaking box office run

Published on: June 30, 2026 3:09 AM

Michael has become the highest grossing biographical film ever, proving that fans are still eager to celebrate the King of Pop.

The movie has made “$977 million worldwide,” beating Oppenheimer and setting another record. The movie is about a story of Michael Jackson’s life, from singing with the Jackson 5 as a young boy to becoming one of the biggest music stars the world has ever seen.

A big reason behind the film’s success is Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s real life nephew.

Many fans, however, have praised his performance, saying that he captured Michael’s voice, dance moves and stage presence in a very natural way.

Colman Domingo and Nia Long also play Michael’s parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson.

The movie has also beat other popular music biopics as well which include Bohemian Rhapsody and Straight Outta Compton.

It is now Lionsgate’s biggest box office hit as well.

While many people loved the film, critics are there as well with mixed opinions. Some enjoyed the music and performances, meanwhile others felt that it did not fully explore all those controversies which was surrounded by Jackson’s life.

Even so, audiences have continued to support the movie as it also brought new attention to Michael Jackson’s music.
