Published on: July 9, 2026 1:17 AM

 UK Türkiye defence partnership

The United Kingdom and Türkiye have signed a new security and defence partnership agreement on the sidelines of the NATO Summit, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral cooperation. The UK Türkiye defence partnership is aimed at expanding political and military collaboration in response to the evolving security environment across the Euro-Atlantic region.

According to international media reports, the agreement reflects the commitment of both NATO allies to deepen their strategic relationship and enhance coordination on regional and global security challenges. Officials described the partnership as an important milestone in the long-standing ties between the two countries.

A joint statement issued by both governments said the agreement will establish new consultation mechanisms covering the political and military aspects of security and defence policy. Key areas of cooperation include defence strategy, military collaboration, the defence industry, advanced technologies, cybersecurity, and countering hybrid threats.

The statement also emphasized that the United Kingdom and Türkiye play a unique and essential role in maintaining security across the Euro-Atlantic region. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation within NATO and to addressing emerging security challenges together.

Under the new agreement, the two allies also pledged to increase defence cooperation, support higher defence spending, and strengthen NATO’s overall capabilities. The UK Türkiye defence partnership is expected to enhance strategic coordination and reinforce the alliance’s collective security objectives.
