Sindh Minister for Home and Law, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, has said that issues such as women’s rights, child protection, inheritance deprivation, guardianship, and legal aid cannot be resolved through government efforts alone. Instead, effective collaboration among the government, the judiciary, civil society, and relevant institutions is essential. He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony on human rights and the Legal Aid Society.
The Sindh Home Minister said, “I would like to present a proposal on this occasion. I am pleased to see that you and your team are carrying out valuable work in this field. I am confident that the public, particularly women in rural areas, will greatly benefit from your services.” He further stated that although public awareness regarding women’s inheritance rights and children’s fundamental rights has increased, these challenges require collective efforts to overcome. He paid tribute to the professionals and organizations working in this sector, describing them as role models for society.
Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that the Sindh Government is committed to further strengthening the legal aid system to safeguard human rights and ensure timely access to justice for the public. Stressing the need for joint planning and close coordination with relevant institutions, he said the government’s objective is not merely to hold meetings but to implement practical measures that deliver tangible benefits directly to the people.
He stated that the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party has always believed in public service and providing maximum relief to the people. He added that the foremost priority of the party leadership, including First Lady Ms. Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, is the welfare of the public and the provision of improved services and facilities.
Addressing the ceremony, the Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar appreciated the efforts of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, saying that he had effectively presented the government’s position on this important issue, which was commendable. He emphasized that human rights, women’s protection, and legal aid are matters of national importance, and that all relevant institutions must work together under a coordinated strategy to ensure meaningful relief and justice for the public.
Sindh Law Minister described the judiciary as a vital pillar of the state, stating that all institutions must discharge their responsibilities with mutual cooperation and coordination to ensure the effective delivery of justice and the protection of citizens’ rights.
During the event, he reviewed the Sindh Legal Advisory Call Centre established under the Legal Aid Society and appreciated its performance. He directed that public awareness of the call centre be enhanced, that it be relocated to a more suitable and spacious facility, and that the necessary funding be provided to expand its capacity so that a greater number of citizens can benefit from its services.
The Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that while the protection of human rights is a nationwide responsibility, more effective public services can be delivered at the provincial level through sound strategies, active community engagement, and the participation of civil society.
